About 32 million more Americans will become obese by 2030, upping obesity rates to 42 percent of the U.S. population, according to a new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention...
...Eric Finkelstein, one of the authors of the report, said the prospect of such increasing rates, particularly those of severely obese Americans, is alarming since efforts aimed at helping people lose weight have so far proven relatively ineffective...

Got this today from our gracious legislator. Thought I'd share with all of you.SusanIf you want to know what's wrong with Louisiana public education, just look at what's going on in many Louisiana public schools today. Or rather, what's NOT going on--namely, learning.
In East Baton Rouge, Vermillion, St. Martin, and other systems, the children are being told to stay home--no school, no learning. Why? So that their teachers can be granted a "professional development day" to lobby the legislature AGAINST education reform.A letter to all Vermillion parish teachers made their marching orders crystal clear: "We want them [the legislators] to know that we do not agree with the [education reform] plan . . ."As a Louisiana citizen and parent, I'm really outraged. I guess the folks behind this are making their priorities clear--forget the kids; we just care about our tenure protection and benefits. This is exactly what's wrong with the system. These folks steal a day of learning from the kids to lobby on the taxpayers' dime. And what happens? They're rewarded with a 'professional development day' to do it.As taxpayers and parents, we need to push back and put the focus back on educating Louisiana's future generations.DavidPaid for by David Vitter for U.S. Senate

*I am asking for a donation of up to $2,500 per election from an individual's own funds, or up to $5,000 per election from a multicandidate PAC or a political party committee. I am not asking for funds from corporations, labor organizations or minors.
...The bill is as punitive as possible with respect to public education and teachers. It says nothing about helping to improve or support them. It's all about enabling students to leave public schools and creating the tools to intimidate and fire teachers. This "reform" is not conservative. I would say it is radical and reactionary. But it is in no way unique to Louisiana...

In this movement, we need a similar strategy. Of course a commitment to non-violence. But also a commitment to non-contradiction: We need to build and define this movement not by contradicting the loudest and clearest anger on the Right, but instead, by finding the common ground in our demands for reform.

I have more energy today. I am also going two weeks, no coffee. I think I am gaining more from the resistance of a habit than I am in health by omitting caffeine. That is still well worth it. Looking at cheating tonight with a special margarita (cointreau and little sprite) for the LSU game.

Weird runny nose and sinus issues during day and at night. Is it left over gluten or is it something else. It's very difficult to cook and get to the grocery store. Felt weak the last couple days, but much better today. I feel at my best overall. No GI issues at all.
